Today, we are joined by Alex Epstein who is the Founder of Center for Industrial Progress, the Cofounder of Thoughtful Community, and the author of The Moral Case for Fossil Fuels. Alex has dedicated a significant part of his career to helping people see a more holistic view the discussion about global warming and climate science. Particularly, Alex has brought attention to the reality that as human beings get more access to fossil fuels, the environment gets significantly safer for them. Deaths from floods, storms, droughts, wildfires, and extreme temperatures has plummeted 96%+ over the last 100 years, and yet, that data point is completely missing from the discussion on climate change. In this episode, we are going to discuss… What can we learn from 2020 as it relates to identifying anti-science claims in the media? Will the government response to COVID create a pathway for a rollback of fossil fuels? What is the future of the climate discussion? Fellow Investors, How much has changed over the last 12 months? This week, we are going to dive into a quasi-viral Facebook status I made about COVID-19 and the respective government lockdowns that shortly ensued. My status ended up getting nearly 200 likes, and 145 comments. Especially in the early stages of COVID, things were changing every minute. In part because of that, I wanted to take a moment to review my thoughts, especially given what has taken place in the wake of the last 12 months. Keep in mind, I wrote this status only 45-60 days after COVID-19 really started to gain popularity. Of course, a lot has changed since then! In this short episode, we are going to review… Why the ever-evolving infection fatality rate seemed to have zero impact on the prescribed of government lockdowns. Some of the unique anomalies that were apparent VERY early on (example: the homelessness population wasn’t suffering as most would have thought) The economic and societal impacts of the government lockdowns and why they must be opposed While this is a bit off the beaten path, I think it’s important to discuss the topic on this show given what ensued from an investor perspective.
